The lake is located in the Julian Alps in the northwestern area of Slovenia and is part of the town of Bled. And even though most of the one million tourists the area attracts every year choose to visit during the spring or summer, Krivec's work proves there's honestly no time when this lake isn't stunning.
The lake itself is the result of a mixture of glacial and tectonic origins, resulting in today's 6,960-foot-long and 1,380-foot-wide body of water. Here it is at sunset with a duck swimming past on an otherwise still surface.
And while the island is home to several buildings, the biggest and best-known is the Assumption of Mary church, which was built in the 17th century and sports a Gothic design — including a 171-foot-tall tower that peeks out above the tree tops.

The church is a popular wedding ceremony location. According to tradition, it's good luck for the groom to carry the bride up the steps on the day of their wedding before ringing the bell and making a wish. Clearly, the church would be just as gorgeous for an afternoon or nighttime ceremony.
Even foggy weather doesn't disrupt the lake's beauty.
And as if things couldn't get any better, the town hosts an international hot air balloon festival every year — and here's what just one colorful aircraft looks like floating over the lake on a clear day (imagine what the sky looks like with many balloons).

If you're lucky enough to catch the view during sunset, you just might witness a crazy orange and purple sky like this.
But even when the weather's hectic and fog nearly blocks the island from view, it's still a sight to behold.
And don't worry: You don't have to be a professional photographer to capture the lake in all its whimsical glory. But if you want to take Krivec's advice, you should book your plane ticket for winter to snap the world wonder during his favorite time of year.
